It would take a long essay to fully explain UMEK’s meaning to electronic music. The Slovenian born producer and DJ has been setting trends and rocking dance floors for two decades now - and still shows no signs of slowing down. He’s tireless in his techno and tech house production and with more than 100 gigs per year, probably one of the busiest techno DJs out there.
He’s not only been rocking our ears with his own productions for labels like Toolroom, Spinnin, Great Stuff, Intec and many more, but has also been heavily involved in choosing who to sign to his arty imprint 1605, which mostly supports young and talented artists who haven’t yet made it on the global party scene.

Having conquered most of world’s biggest stages and festivals, UMEK started his own weekly radio show “Behind the Iron Curtain,” which immediately landed on dozens of the world’s hippest EDM radio stations.
Although he probably holds a national record for the number of flights per year, UMEK still finds time for charity. Every August he hosts a charity event called “Party with a Cause,” where local sponsors help raise money for a certain cause, mostly to help underprivileged youth.

Something about Joseph Capriati:
Inspired and energized, Joseph made the leap into production; slaving away on a home PC and hi-fi speakers, honing his skills for three years and eventually creating his first important records like C’est La Vie and Microbiotik which found their way on two of the most influential Neapolitan techno labels; Analytic Trail and Globox Records. From this moment on Joseph was made. What followed was an explosion in Joseph’s profile at home and abroad. Following his first high profile gig at Naples’s infamous 5000 capacity Golden Gate venue in October 2007, the young Neapolitan has not looked back; spreading his wings and travelling all over the globe. A highly attractive draw in Italy, Holland, Germany, Spain, Eastern Europe has meant regular appearances at Awakenings (Amsterdam), Berghain (Berlin), Row 14 (Barcelona), Fabrik (Madrid), Forsage (Kiev), Escape Club (Sofia), Studio Martin (Bucharest) and many more. However, Joseph’s reach goes far beyond Europe. Already established in South America, Joseph has built a strong connection with the crowds at Crobar and Inferno in Argentina and Carnival, Forum and Der Zoo in Columbia. He has played the exclusive WIRE Festival in Tokyo and made guest appearances at Bar 13 and Dos Torres in New York. Not afraid to reach out to the frontiers of electronic music, Joseph has travelled to the less well know techno hotspots like South Africa, Mauritius and Honduras where he has enjoyed some of his most memorable gigs; proud to be part of the development of these emerging scenes.
This clear and decisive change of approach is key to Capriati’s success. Quick to understand the professionalism and determination required in order to carve out a career for himself; Joseph’s passion and conviction is plain to see in the way he has gone about making and playing music. Whether it be having the confidence to release a debut album containing ambient tracks and Drum & Bass; or the discipline and creative freedom displayed to convinced Adam Beyer to release two multiple-track EP’s on his Drumcode label; or the versatility and insightfulness that characterizes Josephs DJ sets and enables him to connect with crowds across Europe, South America, Asia, North America and South Africa. 2010 gig highlights have ranged from warming up Cocoon in Frankfurt with a pitch perfect mix of tech house through to upstaging the entire Drumcode Total event at Berghain in Berlin with an impromptu four-hour back-2-back set with Adam Beyer. With his path laid out before him and the force of momentum behind him, Joseph Capriati welcomes the future with excited anticipation. “I just want to make music or play gigs everyday. It is the most important thing in my life. When I am in the studio or on stage I feel disconnected from the world and I enter another dimension where there is just the music, the people and myself. I could be sick, or be feeling sad about something, but when I’m playing I totally forget everything and this makes me happier. Looking at the people dancing and following my musical trip is an amazing thing. There is nothing better than this for me.” And so the future for Joseph Capriati is simple. Keep on doing what you love and do it with the passion and commitment that has proved so potent a driving force to this point.

Something about Umek: For a long time, Slovenia is known for its great electronic parties, but as the local scene is of boutique dimensions, everyone, who wishes to take the art of mixing and producing to a professional level, has to go out there and enter the worldwide scene.
Umek has done this step as early as in the middle of the 90s and so he became one of the most important techno players of the global techno scene, even before the end of the last millennium. Together with people, who shared the same views, he successfully captured the first era of researching and recreating the rules of the dance music in Recycled Loops, Consumer Recreation and Astrodisco platforms, which all put the sound of the Slovenian techno on the world map of electronic music.

In the beginning of the year 2007, Umek started a new 1605 Music Therapy - Sixteenofive, with which he marked the beginning of the second era of his music creation and what an era it is! After 3 years the label is already tagged as a great success, with an exemplary number of hot releases, pounding the Beatport Techno Chart.A huge success of the »Electronics Day „10« - the main 1605 techno event in Krizanke (Ljubljana, Slovenia) for the fourth year in a row, a popular summer festival »Disconautica« in 2009 (Koper, Slovenia) featuring 1605 Main Floor and with over 50.000 attending people only further deepened the 1605‟s story of success. Furthermore the many astonishing releases and remixes already released in 2010, not to mention the crown jewel – Responding To Dynamic, Umek‟a second authorial album (released in March 2010), are the best proof, that Umek stays focused on his primary goal – making high quality productions that stand out from the rest and to bring this music closer to people all around the world.

Nominations and winnings on world's prestigious music contests seem to just pour into Umek's pocket – he was voted to first place on Beatport's world Music Awards in techno category, not to mention he was one of the 2009's Best Sellers on Beatport. On last year's DJ Mag Top 100 DJs he was placed on 3rd spot in techno and on 39th spot in overall category.

Production-wise we can also count year 2010 as one of the most successful ones for Umek. In the last two months he had two tracks on Beatport's overall chart placed on the first spot – the banging OMGWTF track and Back In The Race, which he produced with Beltek.

But Umek‟s success story is far from done. In the middle of December an interesting documentary named “Techno heavy-weights Umek & Carl Cox in back to back interview” will be released to the world in which he and Carl Cox debate about their past, music and the future of techno. A must-see for all who consider themselves electronic music lovers. Last but not least a totally new remake of his classic Gatex (named Gatex 2010) is coming to the digital shelves in just a week.

Uros Umek is internationally acclaimed deejay and music producer from Slovenia, seducing the masses with his own music blend for more than a decade. Always on the look for new sounds and determined to challenge every existing cliché in music industry, he managed to define his own vision of vanguard techno. Sure, this would not happen without the support of his loyal peers who’ve joined him on the production platforms such as Recycled Loops, Consumer Recreation and Astrodisco, with which they defined “Slovenian techno sound” and successfully it as an important driving force on the global club scene.
He started his journey to the stardome as an excellent athlete, running between two baskets, but it was Euterpe the Muse of music and poetry that paved Umek’s life-path. She got him totally unprepared, seduced him with no further notice, so he had no chance of getting out of her treads. He devoted his life, his heart, all of his passion and energy, to the sounds he discovered as a teenager. Pioneering the genre he became one of its most appreciated ambassadors with faithful worldwide audience simply known as The Father (of Slovenian techno).
Sleeping on past achievements was never Umek’s thing. So it’s no surprise he decided for complete renovation of his sound and live set performance though being steady member of Top 100 DJ lists for almost a decade. The year 2007 marks beginning of a new chapter in his music career. After spending enormous amount of time and artistic energy bringing his characteristic sound to the whole new level, he presented new international music therapy called 1605 – Sixteenofive. No doubt this was a very risky move. But it was the only way for him to stay on top of the game. And it seems he made the right decision at the crucial time: the response to his new vision of electronic dance music from his peers, critics, media and most importantly his fans is great and his production is supported by some top names in the industry.

Something about Nicole Moudaber: Propelled to the forefront of today’s scene by her flawlessly executed sleazy house and techno sounds, Nicole Moudaber is now an unstoppable force.
Two of her recent remixes topped the Beatport Techno Chart for weeks on end. The Moudaber mix of Sian & Mladen Tomec’s ‘Front Pocket’ on Octopus and her version of Carl Cox ‘Chemistry’ on Intec, which also scooped a prestigious IDMA at Miami’s Winter Music Conference, winning the award for ‘Best Minimal/Techno Track’.
Killer original tracks for other labels including Drumcode, 8Sided Dice, Kling Klong, Leena Music and Waveform Recordings have all furthered her reputation for phenomenal ass-shaking music built around tight production.
Out in the clubs, her technical ability has turned heads from Rio to Montreal. Working the mix from the off, locked into her distinctive groove, Nicole on stage is a sight to behold.
With key 2012 residencies including a fourth season at Carl Cox’s weekly parties at Space Ibiza, plus regular headline slots at Cielo and Pacha in NYC, her global calendar is in rude health.
The logical next step is her own imprint, and work on MOOD Records is nearing completion, so get ready for the next chapter in this incredible story to unfold.

Something about Umek: “As far as I remember, my first serious contact with music was trough pop artists such as Michael Jackson, Modern Talking, Falco and Yugoslavian singer Daniel, who rocked the Eurosong audience in the early 80’s with the infamous hit single Djuli. (Laugh.) My mother is the one to blame. She bought me my first radio which I’ve listened to ‘till exhaustion,” apologizes Uros.
He brought his music passion to the next level few years later, discovering the record button on his first double cassette player/recorder. "That enabled me to start my own music collection. I’ve recorded songs from Slovenian disco chart program, which presented top commercial tunes on weekly basis. I also managed to get my hands on some rare pirate cassettes with dance and techno tunes, but even few years after Slovenia became independent I didn’t really know where to look for that modern electronic sounds that I liked so much. I didn’t know anyone who listened to that stuff. Until I discovered Cool Night, specialized broadcast on Ljubljana’s alternative student radio station. The Monday evening slot was run by original pioneers of electronic dance culture in Slovenia, Primoz Pecovnik (now boss of indie label Matrix Music), Brane Zorman aka MC Brane of Beitthron and Aldo Ivancic of Borghesia.

Something about Jon Rundell: A DJ since ‘96, beginning his career at many of the UK’s major dance events (at clubs such as The End, Magna and Camden Palace) and one of the original Mixmag ‘Future Hero’s, Jon has been a regular at some of the most exciting clubs and events of the era. Fusing Techno, House, Breakbeat and pumping Progressive House together, Jon’s unique and diverse blend of sounds has won him many admirers globally, by subtly pushing new music onto people whilst keeping them firmly on the dance floor. 2006 saw things really take off for this rising talent, having played at many of the major dance festivals across Europe including Dance Valley, Global Gathering and Sonar to name but a few, as well as regular dates across the UK.
In 2006 Jon accepted the position of running the world renowned Intec Records on behalf of Carl Cox, taking the label into new musical directions and expanding on what the label had already built. While running Intec, Jon’s DJing schedule continued but being in this position helped Jon expand on what has been a success in A&R within the label as well as work on his own productions.

By night, Jon works in his studio, his production outputs are many and as in-demand as he is as a DJ. Jon has remixed tracks for Cox’s latest artist album ‘Second Sign’ in both Electro House and Drum n Bass styles as well as being responsible for one of the freshest techno tracks on Intec ‘Dirty Disco’. His releases have been supported heavily by the likes (amongst others) of DJs Paul Van Dyk, Danny Tenaglia, John Digweed and Ben Sims. In 2007 Jon released an EP on Trevor Rockcliffe’s Mentor label, being the first artist other than Rockliffe to ever appear on the label. A huge Rundell remix of Bad Clock by Sébastien Leger has been hammered by Van Dyk (DJ Mag Top10 track, Essential Mix plays, regular on his Soundgarten show) Jon’s remix of Get What You Paid 4! By Carl Cox featuring Saffron from Republica on vocals was commercially released and charted highly in America’s Billboard charts. Jon's latest release ‘The London EP’, including tracks ‘Rock’ and ‘Nemesis’ have been in the playlists of many. Heavy support from Van Dyk saw him play no less than two tracks from this EP and 4 others in his recent essential mix (August 2007). Jon continues to balance work, with Djing and is working on some really exciting forthcoming productions. Keep your ear to the ground!
Gig highlights of 2007 really show how far Jon has come over the last year. They have included The Gallery in London, a stop off gig in Jakarta followed by a massive tour at the Future Music Festivals across Australia during March; taking in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Auckland and Sydney and often playing to no less than 20,000 between DJs such as Ferry Corsten, Felix da Housecat and Carl Cox. August 2007 saw Jon play at Live at Loch Lomond Festival in Scotland as well as gracing the decks of the new terrace at Space in Ibiza, for the busiest ever Carl Cox ‘King of Clubs’ night, Mondaybar in Stockholm and warming things up for Danny Tenaglia on the inside terrace at Dannys’ exclusive ‘Ace of Clubs’ night at Space in Ibiza for a second time in 07.
Things are looking good for Jon, DJ and production wise. On route to Australia in early 2008 Jon will visit the Far East. Jon will then be joining Carl Cox again on tour across Australia, this time for the Big Day Out festivals. First stop is Auckland in NZ, finishing in Perth via the Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Jon then plans to concentrate on more production work by getting into the studio with Carl as well as fitting in other DJ bookings across Aus, before flying out to Miami to make his presence at the annual Winter Music Conference.

Subtlety is not the first word used in connection with most DJs, but there is much more the metier of Germany's Gregor Tresher than simply playing records, as Lights From The Inside attests. In fact, after he completed pre-production on his third full-length, Tresher actually stepped away from the decks for six weeks to clear his head. "DJing is my first profession," he admits. "It's what I love to do and what I have been doing for almost twenty years now, even before before I started to write my own music." In the past two years, the producer of 2008's best-selling Techno track on Beatport ("A Thousand Nights") has aspired to make music he would want to play out. "But for this record, I had the feeling that this shouldn't be my priority." While Lights From The Inside features several songs sure to find favor with Tresher's nightclub colleagues—"Frontline", "Breaking Routines," the giddy "As Days Go By" (recently issued as a single on Josh Wink's Ovum label)—this twelve-song odyssey operates on multiple levels.
Just as a painting or photograph appears to move if one stares at it long enough, with close listening the stratified grooves and melodies assembled on Lights From The Inside reveal an organic universe of shifting sound. Meticulous attention to the latter element—melody—was of utmost concern to the Frankfurt resident. Not obvious, eight-bar earworms that would quickly exhaust their welcome, but musical lines that could repeat and intertwine in different patterns, "melodies that are more subtle and develop as you're listening." In this regard, Lights From The Inside harks back to Tresher's earlier releases, even as his aesthetic continues to evolve in new directions.
Tone color was also a key consideration. "Most of the music was written in two months, but finding the perfect sounds and putting them together took much longer." Listen to the interplay of slow-moving tones and twinkling sounds on the title track, or how muted snare hits reverberate against the chilly lower registers of "Leaving". It's no coincidence that the almost-tactile crackles, clanks and pops animating the whole album sometimes recall Depeche Mode's Construction Time Again; the 35 year-old producer cites that 1984 classic as a longtime inspiration, alongside work by other electro-pop iconoclasts from that era.

Gregor Tresher:
Swedish citizen, Christian Smith spent the late 80’s years in Germany soaking up the early house and techno sound of Sven Vath. Now based in Sao Paulo, he has been championing his funky mix of house and soulful techno for more than a decade, playing across Asia, North & South America, and Europe, plus regular slots at festivals like UK’s Creamfields, Holland’s Dancevalley, Spain's Monegros and Belgium’s I Love Techno. His music released on a variety of top labels like Renaissance; Adam Beyer's Drumcode, Josh Wink’s Ovum, 100% Pure, John Digweed's Bedrock, and his very own Tronic, only proves his flexibility in the studio. Similarly on the decks, Christian’s set is a cauldron of chunky grooves with loads of energy. Some of his favorite clubs are: Womb, Tokyo; Loft, Barcelona; Pacha, Buenos Aires; Arches, Glasgow; and Zouk, Singapore. With a full length solo artist album out on Tronic in early 2010 and massive crossover support from DJ's ranging from John Digweed to Carl Cox to Richie Hawtin, the future is very certain for Christian to stay on top as one of the leaders in forward thinking dance music. www.djchristiansmith.com

Something about Umek:
Although he’s established technician, master of three decks and FX performances, it wasn’t easy for Umek to get acquainted with those needles and mixers in the first place. You have to bear in mind his home country was part of former eastern block and most of the small clubs could only afford cassette and CD players at that time. “I could only dream of having my own decks in the beginning of 90’s. As a single parent my mother could not afford that kind of expense. But I was lucky I’ve met few guys that recognized the talent in me and gave me the opportunity to start.”

Umek was regular at club Palma matinees at that time. He spent most of the afternoons standing in the corner watching deejay mixing records, until one day resident DJ Alf offered him to finish his set. He seized the opportunity, somehow managed to get through the night and they’ve agreed he can practice on that decks and mixer for an hour or so before the weekly matinee. "After I’ve conquered the technique and performed for a few times in Palma, I’ve got offered opening slot at Aldo’s night in K4. It only paid as much to buy one CD, but it was a steady job and I really liked it." It was also the time when he decided to sell his collection of 200 CDs. "It’s something I still regret, but it was the only way to earn money I needed to buy vinyl.”

In the early 90s buying techno records seemed almost a mission impossible for someone living and working in Slovenia. Closest shop with that kind of music was in Germany, almost 500 kilometers away from Ljubljana. “We heard there are some records shops in Munich. So we’ve booked the weekly shopping bus, drove to Munich, and found that shops on our own. It wasn’t easy but we’ve successfully finished that adventure. I’ve only had enough money to buy eight records, but this is how my collection started.”

Biography of Mladen Tomic:
Mladen Tomic’s reputation as Bosnia’s preeminent DJ and producer has gone global. International clubbers have been increasingly drawn to Mladen’s captivating blend of techno and tech house with hypnotic tribal rhythms, with the lucrative Latin American market the latest to fall victim to the Tomic beat.

A string of high-ranking releases and remixes for techno’s major players has propelled Mladen to the top of the stack. Recognition for his recordings has delivered Mladen to parties across Europe and the Americas, while his high-spec home studio is more than earning its keep. Major name support has come from DJs such as John Acquaviva, Popof, Richie Hawtin, Umek, Adam Beyer, Dubfire, Sebastien Leger, Kaiserdisco, Tocadisco and many others.

Mladen’s DJ career kicked off in 1999 when he partnered with fellow Bosnian DJ Siniša Tamamovic to promote events in their native Banja Luka and on tours across the Western Balkans. Not letting the dust settle on a good idea, Mladen and Siniša set up the Night Light label. The brainchild of Mladen and Siniša, Night Light has grown into a thriving source of own-name releases and sought after remixes with big support from global DJs.

Complementing an increasingly lauded roster of original tracks, production remains at the forefront of Mladen’s business with regular releases on some of World’s leading techno and electronic labels, such as Definitive Recordings, Form, 1605, Loose, MKT, Rhythm Convert, Adult Records and many others. Mladen’s most popular compositions include Before Sunset, Tangas, Day In Barracuda, Fly and Drive, Lady In The House and Green Cubes, which were on top positions in the best world electronic music shops.

Something about UMEK:
Born in 1976, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Uros Umek began DJing in 1993. He and his friends were the pioneers of dance music in Slovenia, and between them they were responsible for putting on the first large scale parties in Slovenia. The result has been that Umek is Slovenia’s most famous DJ, and techno is Slovenia’s favourite form of music. He is currently working with his own Consumer Recreation and Recycled Loops (with Valentino) labels, as well as releasing tracks on Tortured (as Mumps), Electrix (as Zeta Reticula), Planet Rhythm, Audio and Missile. His current style is the combination of many different roots, which the more long term Umek fans may recognise. Starting with a rough, uncompromising edge he quickly built a reputation in the studio. However, more recently he has moved towards a funkier sound with his massive Mumps release on Tortured in 2000. His dedication and impressive work rate have led to his studio skills being increasingly called with a wealth of successful releases under his belt.

Something about Umek:
The industrial designed K4 club in the basement of Student’s Union HQ in the centre of Ljubljana is still considered to be Umek’s resident club, although he’s not an official resident deejay anymore. But since his most loyal fans are still gathering there, K4 represented the playground for testing new productions, concepts and sounds. "It’s where everything started. This is the place where I’ve got in touch with first Slovenian electronic projects such as Anna Lies, Clox or Random Logic. Some of those guys were and still are important part of my life. It was Jure Havlicek who ultimately influenced my decision to get involved in professional music production. Gregor Zemljic is mastering all of my tracks. And I’ve founded my first band Mouse Trap with Uros and Vid, who have opened my eyes and ears to this culture.”

It was his friend’s Uros home where Umek got in touch with UK based pirate radio stations such as Green Apple/Dance Nation. "We picked up this programs via satellite dish. They played hardcore, breakbeat and techno non stop at the weekend, and even though we were recording it, we never left the house so we would not miss anything!” His friend was also the one who introduced him the Screen Tracker. "It was the very basic 8-bit resolution production tool with four mono channels, but that’s how everything started. After I’ve finally managed to save enough money to buy proper sampler, the outside world ceased to exist. I’ve became totally obsessed with that box. I’ve spent up to sixteen hours a day working on that machine."
