Biography of Sven Vath:
Since his beginnings in the Frankfurt club scene in 1982, when Sven Väth attracted interest with DJ sets of several hours and a completely new understanding of club culture, his name has not only stood for the constant development of this art form called Electronic Music: with his platform Cocoon, he has also revealed a real dedication in the support of young musical talent showing his passion for bringing great music to the fore.
He has his fans in the most important clubs across the globe as well as at the world’s biggest festivals, he toured South America and played in the Thai jungle, and he is cultural ambassador of the German Goethe Institute. On the dance floor, he unites thirty-five-year-olds with fifteen-year-olds. The reader's polls of the big magazines regularly see him in top ranks in every important category, and his tours lead him to more than seventy cities and numerous festivals on four continents, practically the whole year through. However, besides his own career, the advancement of electronic music as such is of high importance to Sven. His Cocoon network is home to the booking agency Cocoon Artist Booking, the event agency Cocoon Events and the record label Cocoon Recordings – three very important components of the electronic music scene that are both innovative and independent.
In Ibiza, the Cocoon events belong to the most successful parties for years, due to their sharp musical and artistic profile. In the year 2004, six years after the closing of the ground-breaking Omen club (whose artistic motor Sven Väth had been), he started a new era of club-life in Germany and opened the cocoonclub in Frankfurt, setting new standards in design, conception and music. Two restaurants, a Michelin-star awarded chef and the elite of the international DJ guild guarantee a high-class entertainment experience.

Biography of Nathan Fake:
Nathan Fake is just 21 years of age, and yes, that is his real name. He hails from that most unlikely hotbed of new musical talent, the deepest, darkest farmer country of Norfolk, UK. Two years ago Nathan, headed for the bright lights and big city of Reading(!), and since then has never looked back.

Nathan exploded onto the scene last year with the mighty ‘Outhouse’ on James Holden’s Border Community label, one of the most astounding debut singles in a long time which has surely now earned classic status, still receiving regular club and radio plays one year down the line. His rocktronica follow up “The Sky was Pink” (graced with a remix by Nathan’s main fan 1#, James Holden) looks as though it may even better the incredibly high standards set by his debut, now set for not one but two rereleases, one through France’s Cyber, another in the US through none other than Francois K’s Wave label.

Elsewhere stateside one Satoshi Tommie is also a fully paid up member of the Nathan Fake fanclub, and has snapped up no less than five of Nathan’s finest for ‘The Watlington Street EP’ on his New York based Saw Recordings imprint. Cult German label Traum are the latest addition to Nathan’s hordes of followers, poised to release a three track EP early 2005.

Also spreading the Nathan Fake computer-edit-funk message are remixes of Steve Lawler, DJ Remy (Additive), Avus (Border Community) and Perc (Premier Sounds), with the legendary Tiefschwarz currently waiting in line for a Nathan Fake rerub.

An artist not afraid to reveal his soft underbelly, tracks like “The Sky Was Pink” and Saw’s “Peary Land” showcase the casio rock bedroom melodies which Nathan produces when he is not in tech-driven dancefloor monster mode, and give a good indication of where Nathan is headed on his forthcoming longplayer for Border Community.

Nathan has recently unveiled his laptop live set, to rave reviews. Reading like a checklist of the world’s capitals of cool, dates in Berlin, Barcelona, Madrid and Amsterdam form the next stages in the Nathan Fake campaign to take live dance music to levels hitherto unattained. Despite attempts from all corners to persuade him otherwise, Nathan harbours no burning desire to convert his production success into a career as a club DJ, and with a live show like his who can blame him! He is however happy to show off his many sides and eclectic leftfield tastes with an alternative backroom DJ set, and can also adapt his mainroom-friendly live set into something of a more experimental nature, as we can expect on his Border Community album.

A young man at the beginning of his career, showing a level of accomplishment and attention to detail in his productions which ought to put many a more established producer to shame, these are exciting times for Mr Nathan Fake. “Man of the moment” is a phrase often thrown in his direction, but we can assure you he will be around for much longer than that…

There are those who imitate, and those who innovate: Romanian born, Berlin based producer Cosmin Nicolae is unquestionably the latter. At this point in time youll find him honing a ghostly, sketchy techno blueprint that fuses shuffling drums with eerie synths, snatched vocals-as-instruments and strains of Detroit and Chicago classicism. These analogue sounds arrive on labels like connoisseur Dutch imprint Rush Hour as well as Modeselektors 50 Weapons and Untolds hotter-than-hot Hemlock, but are a stylistic mile away from the sound with which the man first emerged.
Back in 2007, when known simply as TRG, a breakthrough came courtesy of Put You Down/Broken Hearts the track which launched Ramadanman, Panagea and Ben UFOs now much lauded label Hessle Audio. The ensuing years have seen Cosmins sound in a state of constant flux, ever shifting through previously undefined sonic territory.
Although they say certain styles of music are native to certain cities, this producer is proving otherwise in the way his music draws distant parallels with 90s Warp, naughties London and du jour Berlin imprints like Fachwerk. There is no template in mind he says of his idiosyncratic sounds, we all have our own little strategies, but for me its just about making it personal. A simple but effective approach, its one thats working wonders for Cosmin who is now found DJing everywhere from Fabric to Sonar to Berghain on any given weekend.
As well as a debut album is coming late August 2011 on 50 Weapons, the restless creatives live setup is also evolving, endeavouring to create an ever more immersive and unpredictable soundtrack in the club. Though impossible to pin down, theres a distinguished and distinguishable sonic personality about all to that which bares Cosmins name, and its that which makes him the essential electronic talent that he is.

From early formative days earning his stripes spinning hip hop, house and rave on pirate radio, and at parties around Essex and East London, through the 90’s as an ever more in demand DJ, and on into the new millennium as a label boss, producer and internationally recognised techno legend in his own right, Ben Sims has spent all his conscious life exploring all facets of underground dance music
Throughout that time, the man has honed his reputation as a tight, energetic mixer who skilfully weaves together his own distinctive blend of tough funk and hardgrooves, often using three-deck wizardry and plenty of dexterity. Be it at clubs like Fabric London, Atomic Jam, Berghain, Florida 135, or any number of festivals around the world, Sims’ sets are powerful, memorable, and unique, while constantly pushing the boundaries of a DJ set – utilising a mesmerizing blend of vinyl, CDs, and software.
As well as carving a reputation as one of the world’s leading techno DJs, Ben has curated many of his own revered labels over the years. Chief amongst them is Theory – an imprint this year celebrating it’s 40th release, that counts amongst it’s supporters contemporary connoisseurs like Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, and the old guard of Dave Clarke, Robert Hood, Rolando and more - proof, then, that Sims is on the form of his life production wise.
Riding high on the wave of critical acclaim from his cultured debut long player on Drumcode, 2011’s Smoke & Mirrors, an album that voyages into Sim’s unique take on techno, coupled with authentic house outings, thanks to guest appearances from Chicago's Tyree Cooper and Detroit's Blake Baxter, whilst also showcasing plenty of dubbed-out and grainy textures.
Sims has put his name to more than 50 releases in the last two decades. During those years, there has also been a steady stream of high profile remixes of scene heavyweights, including Jeff Mills, Adam Beyer, Kevin Saunderson and Chris Liebing, on labels du jour like AXIS, KMS, CLR and Drumcode, all of which have won as much critical praise as they have crossover success.
Despite his veteran status in the scene, Sims has always been keen to evolve. Alongside Kirk Degiorgio, he is co-founder & curator of Machine - a clubnight which focuses on new, unreleased, & upfront music; it’s primary home in London, but with editions all across Europe each year. Ben also hosts Sims & Friends events and stages at top clubs and festivals across Europe. Such shows incorporate Killa Productions sets with long time associate Paul Mac and feature regular appearances from like-minded talents such as Surgeon and others.
Quite simply, if you know techno, you know Ben Sims

Although he's technically a Canadian, Richie Hawtin will forever be associated with putting his beloved Detroit on the dance music map. Along with fellow Detroit pioneer Carl Craig, Hawtin helped break the second wave of Detroit techno. From north of Detroit in Windsor, Ontario, Hawtin has been a DJ, a producer, a record label owner, and a flag-waver for the underground Detroit scene which is only now getting the respect it deserves in the United States. Hawtin started his career DJing at underground parties in clubs like Detroit's Shelter. There he met his partner, John Acquaviva, and together they launched the influential Plus 8 Recordings label.

Hawtin created a unique techno sound, which is regarded as synonymous with the city of Detroit. That sound, electro house, is very minimal, yet highly danceable. He is known for his use of the Roland TB-303 bass machine and that sound has become inseparable from quality acid house and electro recordings. These days, Hawtin kicks around with a TR-909 drum machine. Hawtin signed a record deal with Nova Mute in 1993, and is considered a star in Europe, where he has enjoyed success with his project, Plastikman.
In 1994, rumor has it that Hawtin was scheduled to perform at a rave held inside the Brooklyn Bridge. Allegedly, while crossing the border from Canada, guards stopped him, assuming he was attempting to work illegally in the US due to the massive amount of equipment in his car. Supposedly he went home and recorded a set to DAT and shipped it to the promoters. To this day, no one can say for certain whether that headlining slot was live or on tape.
Today, he has gained the respect of a larger US audience. In May 2000, Hawtin performed at the first Detroit Electronic Festival alongside Derrick May, Juan Atkins and other techno masterminds. More than 200,000 people attended from all over the world.

Joey Beltram is a techno pioneer, heralded as one of the scene's biggest stars.

In 2009 alone Beltram had a Beatport top 10 with his remix of Oliver Huntemann's Shanghai Spinner. Then there was his huge vinyl releases like the Scorpion on Drumcode, Shaking Trees on Harthouse (a Raveline track of the month), and a killer remix of Abe Duque's Let's Take It Back that had rave reactions across the board including MANDY, Dave Clarke and Hell. There was also his run of headline slots at festivals, which in 08/09 has included Coachella, both of Italy's Play the Music Festivals, BLOC in the UK, Hungary's Bonusz, Awakenings, Planetlove Ireland and Rockit Open Air in the Netherlands, plus club gigs from Berghain to the 10,000 capacity Fabrik in Madrid to Fabric UK's sister club matter, Ministry of Sound and numerous appearances in Germany, the US, Spain, Holland, Canada, Malta and more. Check out the videos of huge festival crowds on YouTube.

What’s his secret? Continued experimentation and an unparalleled run of influential tracks. Beltram grew up in Queens, one of the toughest boroughs of New York - the equal to Detroit for rough times but very different in its musical roots. At 12 years old Beltram was DJing hip hop and electro, playing roller rinks and block parties to buy records, studio gear and decks. He released his first tracks before age 18 on New York labels Nu Groove and Easy Street, and by 20 he caught the ear of Belgium's now pivotal R&S label with his track Let It Ride.

R&S invited Beltram to Europe and techno history was made. Beltram arrived with a new track he'd completed a week before travelling. Energy Flash, released on R&S in Europe and Derrick May's Transmat in the US, is still one of techno's pivotal classics - Muzik Magazine's Track of the Decade, and a track whose title has named any number of record stores and books on dance culture. Energy Flash and its follow up Mentasm with Mundo Muzique made Beltram's name and took the 21-year-old right round the world, playing major events in the UK,
Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Germany and holding down a residency at the notorious Limelight in New York.

Not content to rest, Beltram has continually toured at the major festivals around the globe treating the crowds to the full force of his inspiring sets. He’s also continued releasing seminal tracks, his '93 and '94 tracks Aonox on Visible and "the Beltram re-releases" on Trax, the Caliber EP on the UK's legendary Warp (home of Aphex Twin and Squarepusher), and his '95 LP Places and '96 single Ball Park on Tresor were huge hits - each being one of the biggest techno records of that year, along with the LP following, Close Grind on Novamute, with the pivotal releases Believer and Forklift.

In '99, he launched his own label STX with Arena, while he continued to release under Code 6 and JB³, as well as headlining events like Awakenings, Coachella, Nature One, Mayday and Dance Valley. Returning to Tresor in '04, his album Rising Sun included several of that year's biggest techno releases. And he has kept the innovative tracks coming since on Womb, Harthouse, Drumcode, MB Electroniks, and Bush.

Which brings us to 2010, this is the year STX will return, both as a label and a touring show, with Beltram having put the call out to the cream of European and US techno producers to join him. Beltram will continue
with the festival headline slots, but an intimate club tour is planned for venues with the right soundsystems...

Something about Paul Woolford:
Paul Woolford tours the world constantly as a guest dj of the finest clubs and festivals, and in keeping with this made his peak-time saturday night debut at Spain's esteemed Benicassim in summer 2009 and also at Glastonbury. Both shows are more famed for their rock acts and it's testament to Woolford's wide-range and inclusive values that he is as much a viable option to these events as he is to a 500 capacity underground sweatbox such as D-Edge in Sao Paolo or The Works in Detroit. Other favourites have included Warung in Santa Catarina, Womb in Tokyo, Goa in Madrid, Panaramabar in Berlin, Il Muretto in Venice where he held a 6-week summer residency, Chicago's Smartbar, Paris' The Mix, Manchester's Sankeys & The Electric Chair, Buenos Aires and Sao Paolo's Pacha, Riccione's Cocorico, Dusseldorf's Tribehouse, LA's Avalon, Las Vegas' Jet, Milan's Amnesia, Zurich's Q Club, a career-defining performance in 2007 at Serbia's Exit Festival and again in 2009, Buenos Aires' Creamfields event twice, Global Gathering, The Glade Festival, Glastonbury. Paul Woolford has a frequently exhausting schedule that runs into overdrive in the summer when his main weekly residency at WeLoveSpace on Sundays in Ibiza starts. He was awarded 'Best Newcomer' in Ibiza's DJ Awards in 2006, nominated in the Tech-House category in 2010, won DJ Magazine's Best Of British Best DJ Awards in 2010, and was nominated in 2007.

Many know Paul Woolford's name through the 2005 slow-burning hit "Erotic Discourse", released on 2020 Vision, the Leeds label with which he made his name initially. The success of this proved he has the ability to create a genre-defining sound and led to sales of over 15,000, capturing the imagination of DJs across the board from The Chemical Brothers, Richie Hawtin and DJ Hell to Francois Kevorkian, Laurent Garnier, Trevor Jackson and Erol Alkan. It was Erol Alkan that described the track as "a modern day psyche record" and the track became a classic, spawning a legion of copyists intent on imitating the studio technique at the heart of the track. Rather than replicate himself with a swiftly produced facsimile of the track as many and most djs and producers do, Woolford sharply turned left and his next 3 releases were EPs of detroit-inspired techno and deep house for UK stalwart NRK. The tracks '313', 'Sealed In Amber' and 'Demons' proved to be amongst Woolford's best work, and perfectly encapsulated that mood of integrity, rather than cashing on the previous success of 'Erotic Discourse'. Since this time Woolford has given birth to his Intimacy label which is now his first home to explore the myriad of different facets from across the house and techno divide, occasionally dipping into heavy experimentalism as with the collaboration with world-class free-jazz drummer Paul Hession on 'Vanguard', and also releasing the work of other artists such as Jet Project and Mat Playford. Intimacy is set to step up a gear in 2010.

Magazine Covers have included DJ Mag August 2006 (with Nic Fanciulli), One Week To Live October 2006, IDJ in January 2008 with a photo shoot from Tate Modern's Doris Salcedo installation "Shibboleth" (after a personal email from Woolford, Salcedo gave her express permission) and an exhaustive 5 page feature to mark the release of his "The Truth" album on 2020 Vision.

Irrespective of your position on the dancefloor or listening at home, Paul Woolford's tropes and idiosyncrasies are unmistakable and he has become a force to be reckoned with in modern dance music.

“What’s that you’ve got there Boiler Room? Looks like some kind of satchel? Is there something in it? What are you doing? Oh! You’ve only gone and pulled it out the fucking bag!”

That’s right people, it’s time for the third instalment of Boiler Room Berlin – once again coming to you from underneath a swimming pool like it’s nothing. This time we’ve got New York house legend Levon Vincent coming down to show us what’s up. Be warned, he’s one of our favourite producers ever and he brings the god damn heat to a dance.

We’ve also got the genius that is Efdemin passing through, who is often heralded as one of Berlin’s finest. Ohhhh loorrda meerrrrcy!

Professor Roman Flügel has also been persuaded to bring down some records. He’s been working hard since the early nineties to creat the music you need to have a good time, and even though he keeps finding the answers he doesn’t seem to be able to stop himself. Thankfully

Fresh off the back of an astound LP, Cosmin TRG will be there the make you feel all sweaty and comfortable. Expect big, scary, whoosh synths and smiles on everyones little faces because he’s one hell of a guy!

To round of this assquake of a line-up , 2562/ sometimes known as A Made Up Sound will be kicking it all off with one of his formidable techno workouts. He always disappears for a little while and then resurfaces with a big bag of belters. Let’s see what it do!
