Sandrien Live @ 909, Amsterdamse Bos, Amstelveen (Netherlands) (16-06-2012)

Whoever said dj-ing done by women is crap, can dance in shame while Dutch techno heiress Sandrien is behind the decks. The Amsterdam based, female DJ has been a household name in the Dutch dance industry as well as the international one for some time now. And with an energizing live set, dj-sets that have that deep and old school feel to them, a residency in Holland’s most famous house and techno club, Trouw and bookings in Berghain, Bar25, Awakenings, 5 Days Off and Lowlands one can easily state that Sandrien is here to stay.
Sandrien started dj-ing at the end of the last century, not for the money or to prove anything, but for the love of music. She’s been collecting and spinning vinyl ever since. Her preference in music when playing a club or festival is the deeper techno with those minimal and old school influences. And so she makes sure every record she plays has a soul to it. Her sets are always surprising, never the same as the last one and full of energy. She is known for her fine-tuning with the audience, which leads to a crowd that loses it and goes crazy until the very last record Sandrien plays.
Together with Carlos Valdes she also forms a male/female DJ duo. After meeting each other in 1999 at house parties in Amsterdam, they became friends and shared the same passion for electronic music. The next logical step was playing records together. Their friendship and shared love for techno, house and other electronic rarities, is what makes them a powerful team and leads to surprising and highly danceable sets. Their deep sets full of fun and energy were never ignored by the Dutch audience, as they won an award for best DJ duo in 2007. They had their own club night ‘MAD2’ in 11 (RIP) and invited guests like Cassy, Bruno Pronsato, Jackmate, MR G and Tigerskin.
Sandrien’s sparkling personality in combination with her qualities as a DJ has made her one of the top female DJ’s of Holland. This fine combination also opened doors to all the big Dutch festivals and parties such as: Dancevalley, Mysteryland, Innercity, Lowlands, FYM, Rockit, Circoloco Amsterdam,
5 Days Off, Awakenings (2007/2008/2009). In September 2010 she started her monthly techno night Imprint at Amsterdam’s house and techno club Trouw, which was a success right from the beginning, inviting guest like: Sandwell District, Surgeon, Marcel Fengler, Peter van Hoesen, Jonas Kopp, James Ruskin, Norman Nodge and DVS1.
Besides dj-ing Sandrien also produces her own music and does livesets next to her dj sets since 2008. Her first solo release (2010) out on Intacto, was noticed and supported by the likes of: Adam Beyer, Richie Hawtin, Carl Craig and Anja Schneider. Many more releases will follow soon.
All this called for some international recognition as well, and that’s exactly what Sandrien got. In September 2011 Sandrien played her debut at techno headquarters Berghain in Berlin. Though this wasn’t the first time for her to play in the dance capital of the world. Bar25, Cookies and Club Arena were already acquainted with the Dutch dj for quite some time. As well as visiting Tokyo, while on tour with Shinedoe, Sweden (Kruthuset, Stockholm) and Spain (Fellini, Barcelona), Sandrien is also a club regular in Switzerland, Croatia and Italy.
